Luke Smith - The Old Enemy

A new recording. Recorded one day at Sun Distortion Studios with Chris Brownbill. Two takes on vocals, and Chris just edited it without me around after I moved. It’s probably gonna end up on a cool sampler in the next few months, something that’ll be a bit more punk/hardcore orientated so it’ll cool to be the odd one out. If you like it, reblog or whatever. This song is old, I wrote it near the end of 2010. It’s simply about the things I need to do, and the things I need to let go of in order to be content. Things I’m still learning about. There’s a line I borrowed from an episode of Boardwalk Empire.

Racing the sun home on a day I’d rather not. Some days I just feel gutless, other days I feel lost. If my bedroom walls could talk, yeah they’d shame me to death. I keep singing these same songs but my head is still a fucking mess. I walk these same circles every day, the Caboolture line back and forth just to pay my way. Late at night I stay up in my bed hoping my friends can forgive me for this, which not even I understand. I’m sorry that these songs, they come out sounding sad and lame, that’s just how they sound in my stupid fucking brain, and I’m sorry for the self loathing and uncertainty, I am just what time and circumstance has made me. These songs they are a dime a dozen, but in the end it’s only my time that I’m wasting. I never said you could follow me home, you’ve been at my ankles for far too long. These dreams are much better than what they used to be, but that’s not to say that I can sleep. These dreams are much better than what they used to be, but that’s not to say this sleeping thing is easy. When I sleep I dream of a switch where I can turn off my chest and head.  These songs they are a dime a dozen, but in the end it’s only my time that I’m wasting.
